Erice
Erice, named Iruka, by the Elymians, today is well known all over the world, because of its enchanting medieval small village, its amazing landscapes, its sweets and its handmade ceramics, the “Venere castle” and its legendary story.
Thanks to the Arabian people, Erice had an important rule in the story of West Sicily. Today you can just see many medieval attestations and the old walls, engraved with words of Phoenician language.
You can not miss to see the “Chiesa Madre”, the luxuriant “Giardini del Balio”, the international scientific research centre “E. Majorana”.
You can reach this fantastic town by cableway.
In spring you can watch a famous car race, named “Cronoscalata Monte Erice”.
The race starts from Valderice road and goes through the bends, that take to the Erice Top. The actors of this race are vintage cars, prototypes, and other particular kinds of cars (for more information you can click on the following link: Cronoscalate.it).
